Cost of Living
The cost of living is the biggest challenge facing Hawaiʻi families. Housing, groceries, childcare, healthcare, utilities, transportation, and insurance continue to rise, placing tremendous pressure on working families, kūpuna on fixed incomes, and young people trying to build their futures here. Too many local families are working harder just to keep up, while others are making the difficult decision to leave the communities they call home.
Danielle believes that we must strengthen financial security by supporting family-sustaining wages, meaningful tax relief and tax credits, affordable childcare and healthcare, and protecting access to Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, and Social Security.
INCREASING ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY:
Making Hawaiʻi more affordable requires addressing the everyday costs families face while creating greater economic opportunity. This means expanding workforce development, apprenticeships, and skilled trades while supporting small businesses and growing higher-paying opportunities in agriculture, food security, education, healthcare, technology, renewable energy, media and film, and other industries important to Hawaiʻi’s future.
INCREASING HOUSING OPPORTUNITY:
Increasing Hawaiʻi’s housing supply while keeping homes affordable and resilient for local families must remain one of our state’s highest priorities. As an urban planner, Danielle understands that meeting Hawaiʻi’s housing needs requires thoughtful planning, responsible land use, infrastructure investment, and streamlined permitting. Danielle also brings a proven record of working on housing solutions here in Central Oʻahu. As Chair of the Mililani Neighborhood Board, she worked closely with residents and state partners on the Mililani High School teacher workforce housing project, helping shape a solution that better reflected the needs of both the school and surrounding community.
For Danielle, affordability is about something deeply personal: helping ensure Hawaiʻi remains a place where local families can afford to live, work, raise their keiki, care for their kūpuna, and build their future here at home.
